On December 22, 1999 WISCOMP organized A Round Table Conference on Gender Perspectives in Conflict Coverage: The Role of Women Mediapersons  

The discussion was led by a panel comprising Ritu Menon, noted academic and founder of Kali For Women, Pamela Phillipose, Development Editor, Indian Express, Smita Gupta, Special Correspondent, The Times of India and Shailja Bajpai, Media Critic, Indian Express. The panel discussion was chaired by Siddharth Vardarajan, Senior Assistant Editor, The Times of India. The conferences were attended by eminent media personalities and academics, the former sharing their experiences on the field while the latter critiquing conflict reportage and offering a theoretical perspective and background.

The Round Table examined the different perspectives women media persons could offer to conflict reportage. In addition to coverage of war, panelists shared their perspectives on the reportage of cross border conflicts, communal violence and social and internal conflicts.
