Securing Peace, Mainstreaming Gender: The Case of Sri Lanka

Securing Peace, Mainstreaming Gender was the first in this series of roundtables organized by WISCOMP. At this roundtable, held on February 5, 2005, Kumudini Samuel, a member of the core research team of the project on Gender and Non-traditional Formulations of Security, shared the findings of her study on the challenges of integrating gender into the peace process in Sri Lanka.

Some of the issues raised at the roundtable were:

• The impact of militarism and negotiations within the larger debate of traditional versus non-traditional formulations of security;

• Notions of peace making and peace building in Sri Lanka.

• Gender concerns in post conflict transitions and the points of entry for a gender mainstreaming into policy on peace building in the context of Sri Lanka.
